Clear terms

Four things you should know first.

Most companies bury these in fine print. We put them at the top, in dollars and months, next to the good news.

What it costs

$5,000on $25,000 enrolled

Our fee is its own line in every estimate, never folded into a "savings" number. In this preview it is an illustrative 20% of the debt you enroll.

Illustrative fee. Your actual fee is stated in writing before you enroll.

What can go wrong

Read this part too.

  • Your credit score will drop during the program.
  • Creditors may keep collecting, and they can sue.
  • Forgiven debt may be taxable (IRS Form 1099-C).
  • Fees apply.
  • Not all creditors settle.
  • Not available in all states.

How long it takes

24to48

Most programs run 24 to 48 months. Accounts resolve one at a time, not all at once.

How it works

One account at a time. You approve every settlement.

  1. 01

    A free consultation

Talk it through with a real person. We look at your debts and your budget, and tell you plainly whether settlement fits.

  2. 02

    An account in your name

You open a dedicated account in your own name and make one monthly deposit into it.

  3. 03

    We negotiate with each creditor

We work account by account to reach a settlement for less than you owe.

  4. 04

    You approve every settlement

No settlement is paid until you say yes. You see each offer first, and the decision is yours.

  5. 05

    Accounts resolve one by one

Each approved settlement is paid from your account and that debt is resolved. Then the next one.

Compare options

Your options, side by side.

Settlement is one path out of debt, not the only one. Here is how it stacks up, including where the others are the better choice.

What we compare What we do
Debt settlement
Consolidation loan Debt management plan Bankruptcy
What it isWe negotiate each debt down; you pay the settled amounts from an account in your name.A new loan pays off your old debts. You still owe the full balance.A nonprofit credit counselor arranges lower interest; you repay the full balance.A court process that can erase or restructure debt.
What it costsThe settled amounts plus our fee (shown as its own line). Forgiven debt may be taxable. The full balance plus interest on the new loan, and any loan fees. The full balance, usually with a small monthly fee.Court and attorney fees.
How longMost programs run 24 to 48 months.The loan term, often several years.Often 3 to 5 years.Months (Chapter 7) or 3 to 5 years (Chapter 13).
Credit impactYour score will drop during the program.Needs good credit to qualify; can help if paid on time.Usually a smaller dip; enrolled cards are often closed. The largest impact, reported for 7 to 10 years.
Who it fitsAbout $7,500 or more of unsecured debt you can't keep up with.Good credit and income steady enough to repay in full. You can repay in full if the interest comes down.Debt you cannot repay in any realistic time. Talk to a bankruptcy attorney.

If a debt management plan or bankruptcy fits you better, we will tell you so. Free nonprofit credit counseling is a good first call for many people, and we will point you there when it is.

Honest fit check

Is settlement right for you?

A two-minute read can save you a wasted call. Here is the honest picture, both ways.

Probably a good fit if

  • You owe about $7,500 or more in unsecured debt: credit cards, medical bills or personal loans.
  • Minimum payments are getting hard to keep up with.
  • You can set aside one monthly deposit.
  • You want a plan with an end date, not a new loan.
  • You run a business weighed down by debt or a merchant cash advance.

Probably not a fit if

  • You owe less than about $7,500 in unsecured debt.
  • You could pay it all off yourself within a few years.
  • Your debt is secured, like a mortgage or a car loan. Secured debt is not eligible.
  • You need a strong credit score soon, for example to buy a home.
  • You live in a state we don't serve yet.

If settlement isn't right for you, we will say so, and point you to free nonprofit credit counseling.

An honest answer, either way

Questions

Straight answers to hard questions.

Still unsure? Ask a real person. Call 866-659-7966

Will my credit score drop?

Yes. Your credit score will drop during the program. Settlement usually means accounts fall behind while you build up money to settle them. We can't promise how fast it recovers once your accounts are resolved.

Can creditors still sue me?

Yes. Creditors may keep collecting while you are in the program, and they can sue. If you get court papers, call us right away so we can talk through what it means for your plan.

Is forgiven debt taxed?

It may be. The IRS can treat forgiven debt as income, and a creditor may send you Form 1099-C. A tax professional can tell you how it applies to you.

What do you charge?

A fee applies, and it is shown as its own line in every estimate. In this preview it is an illustrative 20% of the debt you enroll. Your actual fee is stated in writing before you enroll.

Do you offer consolidation loans?

No. We don't sell consolidation loans, so we have no reason to push you toward one. If a loan would suit you better, you can compare it side by side above.

Which states do you serve?

Our online enrollment is open in Florida, Georgia, Texas and California. If you live somewhere else, we will tell you plainly and point you to free nonprofit credit counseling.

Next step

Ready for a clearer horizon?

Check your state, see your estimate, then decide. Nothing is signed until you say yes.

Online enrollment is open in Florida, Georgia, Texas and California.

Your estimate in four short steps

Step 1 of 4

How much unsecured debt do you have?

Credit cards, medical bills and personal loans. A rough number is fine. No personal details yet.

What kinds of debt?

Pick all that apply.

We can't help with secured debt like mortgages or car loans, and most student loans and tax debts aren't eligible.

Which state do you live in?

We can only enroll people in states where we are set up to work.
